Risk Assessment Description:

This pre‑use safety checklist ensures that every ride‑on roller is inspected daily before operation on construction sites. It verifies that critical plant components and operator requirements meet legal and industry standards, reducing the risk of equipment failure, loss of control and injury.

The checklist covers drums and scrapers, water spray system, ROPS and seatbelt, brakes and steering, visibility aids, beacon/reversing alarm, control levers and vibration control, as well as fuel, oil and hydraulic fluid levels. It also confirms operator competence, suitable site conditions and the provision of required personal protective equipment.

Use this checklist for:

  • Daily pre‑use inspections of ride‑on rollers before work begins.
  • Verifying that plant is safe to operate and complies with statutory duties.
  • Documenting checks for audit and maintenance records.

How to use: the operator or supervisor answers each question with Yes, No or N/A. Any ‘No’ or ‘N/A’ that indicates a safety concern must be resolved before the roller is moved.

This checklist supports the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, ensuring that plant safety is verified before work starts.

Records of the completed checklist should be retained for at least 12 months in line with CDM 2015 requirements and made available for site inspections.

Compliant with: PUWER 1998, CPA – Reducing Unintended Movement of Plant (2017) and HSE Construction Plant Safety Guidance.

Yes — fully. Add your own questions, edit or remove any of the pre-written ones, and reorder them to suit your site, task or inspection before you download.

Are the safety checklists suitable for UK workplaces?

Yes. The checklists are written around UK health and safety good practice and HSE guidance, and are suitable for inspections, audits, toolbox checks and routine workplace monitoring.

What types of safety checklist can I create?

We are building specialist checklists across a wide range of subjects and industries — fire safety, workplace inspections, equipment and machinery checks, site inductions, vehicle checks, PPE, first aid and more. Browse by category to find the right one.

How often should safety checklists be completed?

It depends on the activity and your risk assessment — many checks are daily, weekly or monthly, while others are done before each task or shift. Completed, dated checklists provide a useful record of your monitoring.

Are the checklists a substitute for a risk assessment?

No. A checklist is a monitoring and inspection tool that complements your risk assessments and method statements — it helps confirm that controls are in place and working. Use them alongside your risk assessments.
