This in‑store children’s event and face painting safety checklist template from Health & Safety Zone helps retail managers and event staff confirm that a children’s activity is safe, compliant and child‑friendly before it starts.

It covers the full range of safety dimensions for a retail setting – planning, competence, environment, task‑specific hazards, equipment, substances, PPE, collective measures, emergency arrangements and post‑event make‑safe – and references the statutory safeguarding duties set out in the Children Act 1989 and the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006.

Use this checklist for:

  • Pre‑event preparation – verify risk assessments, DBS checks and safe paint handling.
  • Live event monitoring – confirm barriers, signage, allergen control and lost‑child procedures.
  • Post‑event review – record incidents, clean equipment and complete a review.

Each question is answered Yes, No or N/A; any No response must be resolved before the activity continues or before the event closes.

The checklist should be completed by the event supervisor before the activity begins, with each answer recorded. Any item answered No must be addressed immediately and corrective action noted. After the event the completed checklist is filed with the store’s health and safety records and reviewed at the next safety meeting.
