This Truss, Ground‑Support and Roof Rigging Safety Checklist is designed for riggers and work‑at‑height crews operating at concerts, festivals and other events. It helps ensure that every aspect of truss, ground‑support and roof rigging is inspected and verified before, during and after use, protecting people, equipment and the audience.

The checklist covers the full safety lifecycle – from planning and competence checks, through site conditions, load calculations and detailed equipment inspections, to personal protective equipment, exclusion zones, emergency arrangements and post‑event make‑safe procedures. Each question is a closed Yes/No/N/A check that can be answered quickly on site.

All items are aligned with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and HSE event‑rigging guidance, ensuring legal compliance and best practice for lifting operations, load‑bearing structures and working at height.

Use this checklist for:

  • Pre‑event inspections – verify rigging plans, equipment condition and crew competence before work begins.

15Are exclusion zones and barriers in place to protect personnel from falling objects?
16Are spotters or observers positioned to monitor for dropped components during lifts?
17Are emergency rescue procedures for work at height in place and communicated to crew?
18Is a first aid kit and trained first aider on site for potential injuries?
19Are any hazardous substances (e.g., paints, adhesives, cleaning chemicals) used in the rigging area stored, labelled and controlled according to COSHH?
