Risk Assessment Description:

This checklist enables lifeguards and pool supervisors to perform a comprehensive inspection of a diving board and its associated diving pit in commercial gyms, swimming pools and leisure facilities. It covers structural integrity, water conditions, safe access, supervision, emergency preparedness and compliance with recognised guidance.

Use this checklist to verify that the board is securely fixed, handrails and grip surfaces are intact, and that the pit water depth, clarity and cleanliness meet safety requirements. Confirm that the access ladder or steps are sound, that a one‑diver‑at‑a‑time rule is displayed and enforced, and that qualified staff are present and monitoring the area.

The checklist should be completed before each diving session and recorded on the facility’s safety log. Any defect must be corrected and the board taken out of service until remedied.

Use this checklist for:
