This playground equipment inspection safety checklist template from Health & Safety Zone helps site managers, caretakers and premises staff verify that all playground structures and surfacing are safe for children.

It covers the essential checks across planning, competence, site conditions, equipment condition, entrapment and sharp edges, impact surfacing, records and compliance with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and the European standard EN 1176. The checklist aligns with HSE guidance on children’s play and leisure.

The checklist is intended to be completed on a tablet or printed sheet during the inspection. Inspectors tick Yes, No or N/A for each item and immediately note any deficiency. Any “No” answer must be investigated and remedied before the playground is reopened to children, and the record retained for the period required by Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and local authority policy.
