This Legionella and water temperature monitoring safety checklist template helps site managers, caretakers and premises staff ensure water systems in educational facilities are maintained at safe temperatures to prevent Legionella growth.

It covers essential checks across all safety dimensions: risk assessments and planning, competence of staff, condition of the water system, temperature recordings for hot and cold outlets, flushing of low‑use outlets, tank and shower temperatures, monitoring records, corrective actions, and the use of water treatment chemicals where required. It references the Legionella ACoP L8 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 as the regulatory basis.

Use this checklist for:

  • Pre‑inspection checks – verify documentation and competence before sampling.
  • Routine water temperature monitoring – record hot and cold water temperatures at all outlets.
  • Flushing and maintenance verification – confirm low‑use outlets are flushed and tanks are serviced.
