This checklist assists maintenance and facilities staff in carrying out a thorough PAT and electrical safety inspection of gym equipment such as treadmills, exercise bikes, rowing machines, strength‑training consoles and other electrically powered fitness devices. It ensures that each item is safe to operate, complies with legal duties and reduces the risk of electric shock or fire in busy leisure environments.

Use this checklist for:

  • Commercial gyms and fitness centres
  • Swimming pool and leisure‑facility fitness areas
  • Sports clubs with electrically powered training equipment

The checklist guides you through verifying test‑label currency, plug and lead condition, RCD protection in wet zones, equipment grounding, visible damage and safe isolation before and after use. It also covers record‑keeping, competency checks and the need for regular visual inspections in line with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. Additional focus is placed on PAT procedures and overall electrical safety.
