This confined space working safety checklist template from Health & Safety Zone helps plumbers, heating engineers, Gas Safe registered engineers and supervisors ensure safe entry and work in tanks, drainage chambers and other enclosed spaces.

It covers all essential safety dimensions – planning and permits, competence, environment, task‑specific hazards, plant and tools, substances, personal protective equipment, collective controls, emergency arrangements and post‑work completion – and references the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 together with HSE guidance on safe work in confined spaces.

Use this checklist for:

  • Pre‑entry risk assessment and permit verification.
  • During‑work monitoring and control of hazards.
  • Post‑work make‑safe and record‑keeping.

Each item is answered Yes, No or N/A – any No answer must be resolved before work continues or before the space is exited.
